"… an ideal opportunity for construction professionals and stakeholders across Canada to knowledge share on prompt payment, and the established ethos of adjudication as an internationally recognized method of dispute resolution."

The CIQS is pleased to be an Event Sponsor for the 2019 Construction Adjudication Symposium and Reception/Dinner being held by CIArb and RICS at Vantage Venues (Toronto) on Wednesday, May 29, 2019.

Topics Covered Include:

  • The Latham Report – "Constructing the Team"
  • Striking the Balance Expert Review of Ontario's Construction Lien Act
  • Bill 57 – An Act to enact, amend and repeal various statutes
  • Construction Act, R.S.O. 1990, c. C30 (Current)
  • Building a Federal Framework for Prompt Payment and Adjudication

Inaugural Symposium to Address Construction Adjudication in Canada

The Ontario government is introducing an adjudication process to ease the strain of delayed payment and expensive dispute resolution processes in the construction sector. Other Canadian juridictions, including the Federal government, are reviewing similar initiatives.

As modern construction projects have become increasingly complex, dispute resolution has become a time-consuming ordeal for the industry. Canada is looking to other countries' experiences as examples of how a formal adjudication process can facilitate payment disputes for everyone involved.

Join us in May as we discuss the proposed changes and what it will mean to the industry.

Looking forward to this inaugral event in Toronto with participants including:

  • Bruce Reynolds and Sharon C. Vogel of Singleton Urquhart Reynolds Vogel LLP

Building Redevelopment Project

The MacKimmie Complex and Professional Faculties Building Redevelopment Project is a multi-year, multi-phase project to address deferred maintenance, enhance pedagogical and administrative environments, accommodate growth, and strengthen the sense of place and community in the heart of the University of Calgary’s main campus.

The completed project provides support for 500 new Full-Load Equivalent students (FLEs) through the constructing of a re-energized central hub of new classrooms, centralized undergraduate and graduate student services, new formal and informal student study space, and expanded academic space.

Initial funding to begin design and planning for the project was announced by the Alberta government in April, 2016. On March 23, 2017, the province announced an additional $262.8M over the next four years for the MacKimmie Complex and Professional Faculties Building Redevelopment.
