Job Description

The Resident Construction Manager leads the office and provides cost management, building surveying, project management, and consulting services on a wide variety of projects providing excellent service delivery to meet client objectives. The Resident Manager should have the ability to identify opportunities within a project that will add value and help successfully accomplish the clients desired project outcome.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Identify individual key target clients and contacts for incorporation within business plan
  • Build customer relationships to ensure high standards of technical service, secure repeat business and develop profitable workload
  • Identify opportunities with existing clients and contacts and follow-up with Principal or President
  • Identify opportunities with existing clients to cross sell other services of Rider Levett Bucknall
  • Contribute to monthly team meetings and business development activity
  • Share marketing information with other regions within Company
  • Prepare proposals and fee submissions
  • Preparation and delivery of presentations
  • Maintain individual project profiles
  • Attend external functions to raise the profile of Rider Levett Bucknall and to generate new contacts
  • Responsible for all aspects of the delivery of projects from feasibility to handover and maintenance
  • Contributes to team performance by collaboration and effective communication
  • Contributes to and understands the clients desired project outcomes, identifies opportunities to add value to accomplish the desired outcomes
  • Adds to team effort by accomplishing other duties as assigned

Skills and Competencies

  • Skills Required: Expert in quantity surveying, cost management, or project management, including planning, development, implementation and evaluation of large, complex projects. Good communication skills required.

Education and Experience

  • Minimum Education (or substitute experience) required: 4-year college degree in quantity surveying, construction management, architecture or engineering science.
  • Minimum Experience required: 5-10 years’ relevant experience of management of staff including project professionals and/or technicians, managing major projects including development of project scope, goals, work plans, timeliness and implantation strategies, developing measurement processes/methods for assessing progress toward goals and project outcomes. Prior experience with developing and monitoring contracts required.

Brook Restoration’s Toronto office is seeking an experienced estimator to confidently identify and pursue new opportunities. We are looking for an experienced estimator in Restoration with ability to work in a fast-paced environment. We require an experienced, knowledgeable, motivated, and career-minded Cost Estimator to be responsible for the accurate, timely preparation of full-cost estimates for projects, including materials and labor. The senior Estimator with prepare and maintain a list of suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors, and establishing unit costs, labor rates, productivity factors and location impacts.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Participate in the identification and pursuit of prospective projects;
  • Attend bid meetings and develop and execute bid strategy;
  • Analyze project proposals to prepare budget and cost estimate;
  • Review technical Specifications and Drawings for pricing and scope review;
  • Prepare estimates of materials, labor, sub-contractor costs, etc. for job bids;
  • Maintain and complete tender processes, including administrative tasks;
  • Provide feasibility studies and assist with Business Strategies;
  • Continuously update unit costs, labor rates, productivity factors and location impacts;
  • Maintain databases, including labor rates, material pricing, and project costs, for future reference;
  • Work effectively and accurately in time-sensitive situations while delegating to a team;

  • Effectively determine the bid strategies required for the company to be successful;
  • Review all final estimate packages to ensure accuracy and completeness, prior to formal quotation;
  • Provide technical assistance in negotiating contracts, change orders, etc. as required;
  • May assist in the preparation of studies, materials and methods, recommendations, and cost estimates as required;

Job Description

We are seeking a Senior Estimator to join our team! Reporting directly to the Chief Estimator (currently being filled by the Principal), the Senior Estimator is responsible for accurately pricing projects competitively so that the company can be successful in the tendering process as well as in the construction phase.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Assist the Chief Estimator in the determination of desired work.
  • Act as secondary sales contact to address invitations to tender and pricing in consultation with Chief Estimator.
  • Coordinate package procurement with Chief Estimator.
  • Coordinate bid schedule maintenance with Tendering & Office Coordinator as well as bond/insurance certificate procurement.
  • Prepare for and promptly attend pre-tender site meetings as needed.
  • As requested by the Chief Estimator, complete tenders in an accurate, efficient, and timely manner, including:
    • Site investigation and review
    • Quantity take-off
    • Cost estimation
    • Application/distribution of overhead and fees
    • Tender form completion
    • Delivery and submissions
    • Tender result procurement
  • Maintain adequate estimation workload as per Chief Estimator’s request and advise Chief Estimator of any conflicts.
  • Upon project reward, review tender/construction documents with the delegated Project Manager, VP of Operations, and Superintendent to review details of the project.
  • Communicate with Project Managers during the construction phase if they have any questions about pricing or cost (i.e. potential changes in scope).
  • Periodically visit Rutherford jobsites to review the cost and production of work

Education and Experience

  • At least 10 years of experience as an Estimator at a General Contractor pricing mid-large ICI projects.
  • Experience with estimating software/programs.
